Week 2 Update on Our North Knoxville Historic Renovation: The first week we spent getting estimates for all the work we need to have done. We are trying to do as much ourselves as possible. But we quickly learned that we would save both time and money by having a professional do it – they can do it quicker and they do it correctly (vs us ‘figuring it out as we go along’)! During the second week, Ryan and I did all the demolition ourselves, which took about 3 full days. We tore up all the 1970′s shag carpeting, which exposed original hardwood floors that are in surprisingly good shape other than the fact that they’ve been painted dark brown. We hope that we can sand the paint off and refinish the floors to bring them back to their original condition. We also took down the drop-ceiling, which exposed another 12-18 inches of ceiling height! Some of the ceilings have some moisture stains, but they are definitely repairable.
Just by taking out the furniture, carpeting, and drop-ceilings, the house looks so much larger! See for yourself…
Up next – kitchen demolition!

LOVE this! And wow, what a difference! Who would ever want to put up a dropped ceiling in a house? So excited to see what you guys do!
No kidding! My guess is that maybe it helped cut down her heating bill?
